The Lixia district historical and cultural area in Jinan, Shandong province was included in the book Demonstration Cases of Historical and Cultural Protection and Inheritance (Part I) released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Aug 2.

By March 2022, Shandong provincial government had announced 60 historical and cultural blocks as well as 2,010 historical buildings at the provincial, municipal and county levels.

Jinan has attempted to maintain the authentic look of the city's historical and cultural areas, such as Mingfucheng Historical Area and Baihuazhou Historical and Cultural Block.

The Mingfucheng Historical Area boasts a rich variety of ancient buildings built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and is a great place for visitors to learn about the city's history. The Baihuazhou Historical and Cultural Block is now a demonstration zone for the preservation of traditional architecture and renovation for modern use.

In June, the Furong Street – Baihuazhou Historical and Cultural Block and the Jiangjun Temple Historical and Cultural Block in Jinan's Lixia district were included among the Shandong provincial demonstration cases for effective preservation.

Shandong currently is home to 10 national historical and cultural cities approved by the State Council and 10 provincial historical and cultural cities approved by the provincial government. It is also home to four famous Chinese historical and cultural towns and 11 famous Chinese historical and cultural villages.
