Shanghai issues alert for extreme heat

The Shanghai Central Meteorological Observatory issued an orange alert for extreme heat on Friday morning, stating that temperatures are likely to exceed 37 C in most areas in the city.
According to the observatory's weather forecast on Thursday, the temperature is expected to soar to around 40 C on Friday and the heatwave will likely affect the city until mid-August.
Local experts have reminded the public to take precautions against the heat and limit outdoor activities.
