Laos abides by one-China principle: Laos FM

Laos Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith has spoken in support of China. Saleumxay said Lao abides by the one-China principle and will firmly support China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during talks with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the ASEAN-plus foreign ministers’ meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Saleumxay said US recent provocative actions on the Taiwan question violated its commitments and basic norms governing international relations, as well as infringed upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lao Foreign Ministry had immediately issued a statement, clearly saying Laos adheres to the one-China principle and reiterating Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, he said.
Wang stressed that for the sake of its own self-interests, the US unscrupulously defied the basic norms of international relations and blatantly violated China's sovereignty, adding "its national credibility had totally bankrupted".
Wang said China would take firm and necessary responses to US perverse acts of using Taiwan to contain China.
He also noted that the "Taiwan independence" forces soliciting the US for its independence agenda would meet a dead end and create the biggest harm to the security of the Taiwan people.
"China appreciated Laos' stance on the situation," Wang said, adding that the country would continue to strengthen unity with Laos to uphold international fairness and justice.
