Region reports case of bubonic plague
The Ningxia Hui autonomous region confirmed a case of bubonic plague on Tuesday, according to the region's health commission. The patient, 45, started to feel uncomfortable during the morning of July 12, with symptoms of fever, fatigue, diarrhea and a loss of consciousness. He had gone that day to Yinchuan in Ningxia from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Working as a shepherd, the man lived on a pasture in Otog Front Banner, Ordos in Inner Mongolia. He was diagnosed with plague at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University on Tuesday, following transfers from two other hospitals in Ningxia. The region started an emergency response on Tuesday night to curb further transmission. A series of prevention and control measures are being taken, the commission said.

4 confirmed dead in residential gas blast
Four people missing after a gas explosion in an apartment building in Tianjin on Tuesday have been found dead, local authorities announced on Wednesday, as rescue work came to an end. Thirteen others were injured. The explosion, which took place at around 7:15 am in Beichen district, damaged the side of the building. The injuries sustained by the victims are not life-threatening, according to the district's publicity department.

Meeting shares views on Tibetan studies
A meeting to analyze the development trend of Tibetan studies and promote the high-quality growth of research was held in Beijing on Wednesday. Academics have been required to help solve practical problems in terms of research direction, with greater efforts in improving international communication and talent education, according to a statement provided by the China Tibetology Research Center, the meeting's organizer. Some 2,200 new Tibetan words or terms were unveiled during the meeting, while an amended guideline on how to award Tibetan researchers was also introduced to the participants.
