The United States has launched the world's largest naval military exercises since late June. Wilson Lee Flores, a columnist with the Philippine Star and economic and political analyst, said the RIMPAC serves the US "Indo-Pacific strategy", helping to maintain US hegemony and strengthen US military presence in the region.

Twenty-six nations, 38 surface ships, four submarines, nine national land forces, more than 30 unmanned systems, approximately 170 aircraft and more than 25,000 personnel will train and operate in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California, from June 29 to Aug. 4

However, Lee said peace and stability are the foundation for regional development and the alliance-based military activities led by the US will stir up the region.

Lee mentioned that ASEAN should remain neutral for the sake of the bloc's development. Besides, countries in the Asia-Pacific region should make efforts to promote cooperation and communication, especially in trade and environmental protection.
