Guizhou sees evident progress in new-type urbanization

Over the past year, Southwest China's Guizhou province has been devoted to new-type urbanization and has seen improvement in urban population bearing capacity, city quality, economy, and urban-rural integration.

In 2021, Guizhou's permanent number of urban residents increased by 620,000, while the urbanization rate of permanent residents reached 54.33 percent.

From January 2021 to May 2022, Guizhou started or resumed renovation projects on 442,500 apartments in shantytowns, 336,100 apartments in old residential communities and 2,996 back streets.

In the same period, Guizhou constructed 5,342 kilometers of underground pipe networks, 630.19 kilometers of urban roads, 58,700 public parking spots, and 32,600 5G base stations.

In 2021, Guizhou constructed 90,000 affordable apartments, renovated and expanded 100 public kindergartens, and improved the quality of 40 county-level medical institutions.

Meanwhile, Guizhou's harmless treatment rate of urban solid waste increased to 98.1 percent, its treatment rate of urban sewage increased to 97 percent, and its ratio of days with good quality air in main cities increased to 98 percent.

Last year, the added value of the service industry increased by 7.3 percent year-on-year, and the growth rate in total output value of industries above a designated size in development zones was 16.8 percent.

From January 2021 to May 2022, Guizhou attracted 2,367 companies with strong development potential, its total number of market entities was 4.02 million, and 69 entrepreneurship incubators were recognized at the provincial level.

In 2021, Guizhou improved 6,018 km of rural roads, constructed 144 medical communities at the county level, and the per capita disposable income ratio of urban and rural residents decreased to 3.05.

In the same year, Guizhou implemented 1,693 key urbanization projects with a paid-up investment of 371.53 billion yuan ($55.48 billion), accounting for 104.2 percent of its annual goal.
