The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Sunday pledged full support for the newly-appointed governing team of the SAR government, urging it to live up to the people's expectations with action.

In a congratulatory statement, a spokesperson said the office hopes the sixth-term administration of the HKSAR, with the central government's backing and the leadership of the next chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu, will unite the various sectors and forge ahead in opening a new chapter for the city.

The statement came shortly after the State Council appointed 26 principal officials of the sixth-term HKSAR government, based on the nominations put forward by Lee.

Members of the SAR's incoming governing team are firm patriots with a broad international vision and governing capability, who share the same beliefs and come from diverse backgrounds, the spokesperson said.

The new team, which fully reflects the principle of patriots administering Hong Kong, meets the central government's political requirements of principal officials of the SAR government, the spokesperson added.

The Liaison Office called on the incoming HKSAR government to meet the aspirations of the local community with action and scale new heights in the new era as Hong Kong is at a critical juncture from order and prosperity.

The spokesperson pledged that the office, as one of the central government institutions based in Hong Kong, will continue to accurately and fully implement "one country, two systems", render full support to the chief executive and the SAR government's law-based governance, and firmly uphold Hong Kong's long-term stability and prosperity.
