Xinjiang ex-Party chief takes new post
Chen Quanguo, former Party chief of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has become deputy head of the Central Rural Work Leading Group, according to official media reports. His new post was revealed on Tuesday during a symposium in Beijing on studying and implementing President Xi Jinping's guidelines on the issues in agriculture, rural areas and farmers' livelihoods. According to Xinhua News Agency, Chen, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech in his new role. Ma Xingrui, former governor of Guangdong province, replaced Chen as the new Party chief of the region on Dec 25.Chen, 66, became the Party chief of the Tibet autonomous region in 2011. He held the post for about five years before becoming Xinjiang's Party chief in August 2016.
Former State reserve head under probe
Zhang Wufeng, former director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, is being investigated for suspected severe violations of discipline and law. Zhang is also a former secretary of the leading Party members group of the administration. The investigation is being conducted by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

Shopping festival to boost consumption
Tourism hot spot Yunnan province will hold a monthlong shopping festival starting June 18 in an effort to boost consumption, the provincial commerce department said on Wednesday. Local governments and financial institutions in the southwestern province will issue over 8 million vouchers during the festival, while the commerce department will hand out vouchers worth over 100 million yuan ($14.8 million), said Li Chenyang, head of the commerce department. Over 100,000 businesses are expected to participate in the shopping festival, offering a variety of promotional events both online and offline.

548,000 affected by heavy rain in province
Heavy rain since Sunday had affected a total of 548,000 people in East China's Jiangxi province as of 5 pm on Tuesday, the provincial flood control headquarters said. From Sunday to 5 pm on Tuesday, the heavy rain also forced the relocation of 113,000 people, said the headquarters, adding the downpour caused a direct economic loss of about 500 million yuan ($74.4 million).
