Health literacy in China has jumped nearly threefold in the past decade, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

Li Changning, director of the China Health Education Center, told a news conference that health literacy stands at 25.4 percent, up from 8.8 percent in 2012.

The country now aims to raise that to 30 percent by 2030, he said.

Li added that more than one-third of district-level and county-level areas are now involved in a nationwide project to incorporate health policies into the daily lives of residents, such as building more public fitness facilities and strengthening psychological health education and dietary guidance at schools.
