Shanghai's first pet care center in downtown that took care of pets whose owners had to be quarantined amid the current wave of COVID-19 epidemic was closed on Thursday.

All pets cared for by the center have returned home safely, said Zhai Jiang, the person in charge of the site.

Opened on May 7 by the Laoximen subdistrict, the Shanghai Sansan Pet Caring Volunteer Association and a local pet hospital, the center had taken care of 40 dogs and 15 cats. The center was operated by eight volunteers.
