UN rights commissioner to arrive on Monday
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, will visit China from Monday to May 28 at the invitation of the Chinese government, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Friday. Also, the spokesman said that Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will pay an official visit to China from Saturday to Sunday at the invitation of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Corrupt bank head caught and repatriated
Sun Feng, the former head of a bank in Jiangsu province suspected of contract fraud and who fled overseas, was detained and returned to China on Thursday, anti-corruption authorities said on Friday. Born in 1978, Sun was director of the Yaosai branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Jiangyin. He was suspected of using his position to defraud large amounts of money, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision said. In 2015, Sun was listed as one of the country's 100 most-wanted fugitives, all subject to Interpol Red Notices.

New species of giant salamander discovered
A team of Chinese scientists has discovered a new species of Chinese giant salamander at a nature reserve in Jiangxi province. Named Andrias jiangxiensis, it is the only known species of giant salamander in China with a genetically pure, reproducing, in situ population, according to the team led by Che Jing, a researcher with the Kunming Institute of Zoology, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
