China-Liberia fishery cooperation to improve

China is willing to intensify fishery cooperation with Liberia, including training of experts and introducing advanced aquaculture techniques to the African country, Chinese ambassador to the country said.
China is a responsible fishing country, attaches great importance to the scientific conservation and sustainable utilization of fishery resources, and actively fulfills its international obligations, Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng said while meeting Emma Glassco, director general of Liberia's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority.
"China-Liberia fishery cooperation has broad prospects and huge potential. China is willing to continue to uphold the concept of sincerity, friendship and equality, and work with Liberia to explore new areas of bilateral pragmatic cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples," Ren said in a statement released following the meeting on Thursday.
Glassco commended China for the support provided, including technical training opportunities for personnel of her institution, and said she hopes for more assistance from China in providing technical support.
The fisheries authority, she said, has decided to adapt to climate smart approaches, by transitioning from dugout wooden canoes to fiberglass boats.
"We encourage the Chinese, who are one of the leading manufacturers of fiberglass boats, to take advantage of the investment opportunities to start the local production of fiberglass boats in Liberia," Glassco said.
