China's top disaster relief organizations and local authorities of Gansu province jointly held a disaster relief drill in Zhangye city on Wednesday.

Combining disaster characteristics of Northwest China and the alpine environment of the province's plateau, the drill simulated earthquakes, building and road collapses, and damaged utility systems such as water, electricity and gas.

The goal was to comprehensively examine the rapid response capability and earthquake relief capacity of the emergency rescue system.

Sub-drill grounds were also set up in places such as Jiayuguan, Jinchang, Jiuquan and Wuwei.
