Sanya makes big contributions to Hainan FTP construction

In recent years, Sanya has made big contributions to Hainan's comprehensive deepening of reform and opening-up, as well as the construction of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.

The city's total tourism revenue has increased by an average of 14.3 percent in the past five years. Its modern service industry, high-tech industries, and modern agriculture have an average annual increase of 11.4 percent, 4.9 percent, and 7.3 percent respectively. The city's GDP, local general public budget revenue, and total retail sales of consumer goods have an average annual increase of 7.2 percent, 5.5 percent, and 16.5 percent respectively, exemplifying its steady economic progress.

Since the implementation of the new offshore duty-free shopping policy in July 2020, Sanya's duty-free sales have accounted for more than 75 percent of the province's total duty-free sales. In 2021, Sanya's total foreign trade volume and actual utilization of foreign capital increased by 4.6 times and 1.2 times respectively compared with 2016.

The city's continuous innovation has been one of the highlights of Sanya's development in recent years. To date, the Hainan Yazhou Bay Seed Laboratory and the Nanfan Breeding Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have settled in Sanya. In addition, a number of major deep-sea scientific research achievements, such as the deep-sea manned submersible Striver, have also been made in Sanya.

Sanya has also continued to improve people's livelihood, promote the stable development of agriculture, and increase farmers' incomes. In the past five years, the average annual per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents has increased by 6.9 percent and 8.3 percent respectively.
