Shanghai farmers begin spring plough

Suburban areas in Shanghai are now preparing for the spring plough as the month of May marks the busy season for the city's agriculture industry.

In Liantang town in Qingpu district, farmers have been using machines to plough water fields in preparation for the planting of lotus roots. Ploughing is an important step as it improves the soil quality and eliminates pests and wild grass before the transplantation of seedlings or seeds.
