Liuyang on quest to make fireworks greener, safer

Aside from establishing research platforms, the city has worked with institutes across the country in efforts to make fireworks cleaner, including the Nanjing University of Science & Technology in Jiangsu province.
Chen said propellants that produce little smoke and emit no sulfur and firework shells made from regenerated plant fiber are some of the 300 achievements of the research.
Wanzai county, Jiangxi, has also gained pace in promoting intelligent production and supervision among the 256 companies that make up its firework industry.
It launched an intelligent supervision system two years ago, and to date, the system has checked production procedures 968 times, said Zhong Ming, head of the Wanzai Emergency Management Bureau, adding that it has helped identify 1,196 safety hazards.
As a result, 43 companies have been punished for violations.
"Thanks to the system, no accidents have happened in the sector for the past two years," he said.
