Meeting in Guangxi votes for him to represent region at 20th CPC Congress

Xi Jinping was elected as a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on Friday by a unanimous vote at the CPC congress of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Xi was nominated by the CPC Central Committee as a candidate for delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, which is scheduled to be held in the second half of this year.

The regional CPC congress was held from Thursday to Friday in Nanning, the regional capital, and the announcement of Xi's unanimous election was greeted by a burst of long and warm applause at the congress on Friday morning.

Delegates at the congress said Xi's election reflected the shared wish of the over 2.5 million Party members and 150,000 grassroots Party organizations in Guangxi, and fully demonstrated the hearty support of the region's 57 million people for Xi.

According to a statement issued by the CPC Central Committee in November, a total of 2,300 delegates to the Party's 20th National Congress will be elected by 38 electoral units across the country, and the election will be completed by the end of June.

Xi was elected as a delegate to the Party's 19th National Congress by a unanimous vote at the CPC Guizhou provincial congress in 2017.

According to the Party's Constitution, the CPC National Congress typically convenes once every five years. It hears and examines the reports of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Party's top anti-graft body, and discusses and makes decisions on major issues concerning the Party.

Delegates will also elect a new Central Committee and a new top anti-graft body.
