16 provincial-level Chinese officials penalized for discipline violations in Q1

BEIJING -- A total of 112,000 officials, including 16 at the provincial and ministerial level, were penalized for violating Communist Party of China disciplines and laws in the first quarter of this year, according to the country's top anti-graft body.
Disciplinary and supervisory authorities across the country received more than 850,000 pieces of information as tip-offs from the public and initiated investigations into 143,000 cases during the first three months, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said in a statement on Friday.
Those punished also included 596 at the prefecture level and 4,688 at the county level, the statement added.
