A memorandum on strategic partnership and cooperation was signed between the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, the Georgian state body announced on Wednesday.

The document, signed in an online format by Soso Ramishvili, the Head of the Investigation Service, and Vadim Melnik, the Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, involves bilateral cooperation between the sides in detecting, preventing and investigating crimes committed in the financial and economic fields, the Georgian Investigation Service said.

Ramishvili welcomed the cooperation between the two countries despite the “difficult situation” with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, noting the agencies had not ceased the communication during the war and were able to “formalise the already established professional relations”.

He also expressed his condolences to the Ukrainian families of the victims of the war, expressing his “sincere support and solidarity” to Ukrainian colleagues and people.

The Ukrainian official called the signing the “first important step towards attracting international experience, especially in a difficult situation and identifying new risks for the economies of both countries”.

Communication, exchange of information and attraction of foreign experience will be useful in fulfilling the main tasks of the Bureau [...] Consolidation of our partnership will definitely be mutually beneficial and effective,” Melnik said.

The two officials also discussed specific areas of their activities during the online meeting to enhance future cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Ukraine.
