FM meets Pakistani chief of army staff on ties, intl issues

Efforts should be made to address the Afghan issue by promoting dialogue and communication with wisdom of the East instead of imposing sanctions and pressure, visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
He made the remarks when he met with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday.
Wang said China and Pakistan encourage the Afghan ruling authority to actively build an open and inclusive political structure, pursue moderate and sound internal and external policies and resolutely fight against all kinds of terrorism.
Noting Afghanistan enjoys a favorable location, resource endowment and development potential, Wang called for the international community to support Afghanistan to find a way to develop its economy, improve people's livelihood, and strengthen self-reliance.
Bajwa held that China has been proactively committed to safeguarding world peace and stability and fully showed the responsibility of a major country in international issues.
On the Afghanistan issue, he noted Pakistan appreciated and supported China in holding the third foreign ministers' meeting of neighboring countries of Afghanistan.
The international community should not ignore the Afghan issue amid the current Ukraine crisis and ought to ramp up attention to and investment in Afghan security and its people's livelihood, he said.
While expressing high concern about the spillover effects of the Ukraine crisis, Bajwa appreciated China for promoting peace talks and upholding justice and balance, saying Pakistan would enhance communication and coordination with China in this regard.
In response, Wang said the Ukraine crisis tells the world pursuing exclusive or absolute security and seeking one's own security at the expense of others' security would lead to conflict in the end.
Engaging in military groups and bloc confrontation would lead nowhere and find no support in the 21st century, he added.
