The Taipei Zoo has recently put an obese giant panda on a diet to help her get back in shape, China News Service reported.

Yuanzai, 9 years old, weighs 115 kilograms and is as heavy as her father Tuantuan, according to the zoo. Her younger sister Yuanbao, born in 2020, now weighs 70 kilograms.

According to the zoo keepers, Yuanzai has a modest appetite, but extraordinarily good digestion.

Keepers have prepared her foods that are low in fats, sugar and salt, but rich in protein. Nevertheless, the new meals still appeal to Yuanzai.

In 2008, the Chinese mainland presented Taiwan with two giant pandas, both born in 2004 and called Tuantuan and Yuanyuan. Their names put together mean "reunion" in Chinese.
