China saw over 1b passenger trips during Spring Festival travel rush

BEIJING -- A total of 1.06 billion passenger trips were made in China during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush that ended Friday, official data showed Saturday.
The figure marked a 21.8-percent increase from the 2021 level, said the Ministry of Transport.
Of the total, air passenger trips accounted for 39.82 million while railway passenger trips came in at 253 million, according to the ministry.
The Spring Festival peak-travel period in 2022 spanned from Jan. 17 to Feb. 25. During this travel season, also known as Chunyun, many Chinese people travel to reunite with their families for the Chinese Lunar New Year, which was celebrated on Feb. 1 this year.
