Chinese embassy spokesperson’s comment on remark by British side over Ukraine

Question: On February 17, the British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss claimed in Kyiv that "China should be doing everything possible to ensure that Russia steps back", that "the world is watching to see whether their actions contribute to peace and stability or to fueling aggression". What is your comment?
Embassy Spokesperson: The above-mentioned remark was an attempt to shift responsibility and mislead the public.
China's position on the Ukraine situation is consistent and clear-cut. China believes that in the current context, all parties concerned should let reason prevail, adhere to the general direction of political resolution, and refrain from any act that hypes up the crisis or provokes tensions. The parties should fully consider legitimate security concerns of each other and show mutual respect, and on such a basis, properly resolve their differences through equal-footed consultations.
We have noticed the recent diplomatic engagement between the Russian Federation and some European countries at the leadership level, and support all efforts conducive to easing the tensions. We are firmly against any irresponsible words or actions to spread false information, heighten the tensions or shift the blame onto others.
