Athletes celebrate their achievements with Bing Dwen Dwen, the Winter Olympic mascot that has driven fans wild with its cute and chubby appearance. AGENCIES

Bing Dwen Dwen, the official mascot of the ongoing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, is attracting worldwide attention.

According to Christophe Dubi, Olympic Games executive director of the International Olympic Committee, it looks like a giant panda that has just rolled in snow. The combination of a treasured Chinese animal and the ice cover gives people a sense of purity and power.

It is fair to say that Bing Dwen Dwen's design exudes both the Olympic spirit and zeitgeist, namely innovation. Bing Dwen Dwen is just one aspect of traditional Chinese culture that is on display at the Olympic Games. At the opening ceremony, there was a display of the"24 solar terms", or periods in the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, through poetry and paintings. This showcasing of traditional Chinese culture is appealing for audiences around the world.

Behind this display of traditional culture was China's effort to inject vitality and confidence into the whole world. At a time when many countries and regions are still battling grave challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, China has not only brought it largely under control but is also successfully hosting a global sporting event, allowing athletes from around the world to perform to their full potential.

China's efforts are appreciated by these visiting athletes, many of whom have said they are enjoying this global competition in China. The increasing popularity of Bing Dwen Dwen is in a way promoting their understanding of China, a country that has always worked toward the good of all.

The more Bing Dwen Dwen models go overseas in the hands of the visitors, the more people around the world will feel China's hand of friendliness.
