Former disciplinary official sentenced in bribery trial

Dong Hong, a former senior disciplinary inspector, was sentenced to death for accepting bribes. That sentence was suspended for two years, and Dong has been deprived of political rights for life, and seen all his personal property confiscated.
The sentence was announced by the Qingdao Intermediate People's Court of East China's Shandong province on Friday.
Dong said in court he would obey the court's decision and would not appeal.
Dong was accused of taking advantage of his former positions and power to seek profits and promotions for others, illegally accepting "huge sums" of money and gifts in return, according to a statement released by the court.
On April 12, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and the National Commission of Supervision put Dong on file for investigation for serious violations of discipline and law.
Dong, 68, has been involved in disciplinary inspections of several state-owned enterprises such as Shenhua Group Corp. He has also been exposed for engaging in various superstitious activities in violation of CPC discipline.
In the first trial on Thursday, Dong was accused of taking advantage of multiple positions to seek benefits for himself and favored organizations in project development, project contracting and personnel arrangement, and illegally accepting property worth more than 460 million yuan ($72.31 million).
