The Zhengzhou Education Bureau of Henan province has canceled final exams for early primary school grades and modified exams for other grades up through middle school in the city, the bureau announced on Friday.

Primary schools will have no exams for first- or second-year students. Students in other grades of primary and middle school will receive online evaluations or exams arranged later at the beginning of the spring semester, the bureau said in a statement.

The city shifted to online courses Monday in an effort to stop the widening of the recent coronavirus outbreak.

The coronavirus risk level in three residential communities of Zhengzhou's Erqi district was classified as medium on Friday, according to a statement released by the city's epidemic prevention and control headquarters.

On Friday morning, the city carried out coronavirus screening tests covering residents under lockdown management and all residents in the districts of Jinshui, Erqi, Zhongyuan and Guancheng Hui. Tests were also conducted in the Zhengzhou Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone and Zhengzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, to screen for coronavirus carriers.
