China and India will take effective measures to maintain security and stability in the western sector of the China-India border throughout the winter, the Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday night.

Diplomatic and military representatives from both countries held their 14th round of China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting on the Chinese side of the Chushul-Moldo border on Wednesday.

The ministry said both sides had a "frank and in-depth" exchange of views on the resolution on issues along the Line of Actual Control in the western sector.

The attendees agreed that both countries should follow the instructions provided by the state leaders and work for the resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest, the ministry said in a statement. It did not elaborate on what the issues are.

Resolving the issues would help restore peace and tranquillity in the region and promote bilateral ties.

"The two sides also agreed to consolidate the previous outcomes and take effective efforts to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the western sector, including during winter," the ministry said.

It said both sides would stay in close contact and maintain dialogue via military and diplomatic channels. It was also agreed that the next round of corps commander level talks should be held at the earliest opportunity.
