MOSCOW -- The United States pursues its own interests at the cost of its allies, British writer and analyst Tom Fowdy has said.

"America aggressively competes against its own 'allies' in order to deliver the greatest gains for itself. It seeks obligation from these countries, only to undercut them," Fowdy wrote in an article published by Russian broadcaster RT recently.

For example, when France reached an agreement to sell submarines to Australia, the United States undercut the deal and replaced it with its own, said Fowdy, a political and international relations analyst with a primary focus on East Asia.

When US allies attempt to make deals with China that the United States is not a party to, Washington quickly becomes resentful, yet it quickly moves to make those same deals with China independent of what its allies might get, he added.
