Chinese mainland reports first Omicron case in Tianjin

Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Monday that it discovered the Omicron coronavirus variant from genome sequencing of samples collected from an asymptomatic COVID-19 imported case that arrived in the city on Dec 9.
It's the first Omicron coronavirus variant reported on the Chinese mainland.
The centers confirmed it was the Omicron variant B.1.1.529. Currently, the patient is under treatment at local designated hospital.
