The 100-year history of the Communist Party of China is a glorious journey in which it has worked with the non-Communist parties to struggle for national development based on the principle of multiparty cooperation and democratic consultation, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, has said.

Xi made the remark while chairing a symposium held on Sept 10 in Beijing by the CPC Central Committee to solicit opinions from non-CPC members on the draft resolution on the major achievements and historical experience of the CPC's 100 years of endeavors, which was adopted by the just-concluded sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

Multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC is the basic political system in China. Non-Communist parties participate in the discussion and management of State affairs.

During the meeting, Xi introduced the considerations of the CPC Central Committee about the draft document to the non-CPC members. Leaders of the eight non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as a representative of personages without party affiliation, voiced their support for the draft document and gave their comments and suggestions.

Xi said that as the world is undergoing profound changes and China is at a critical period in its national rejuvenation, comprehensively reflecting on the major achievements and historical experience of the Party's endeavors in its 100 years of glorious journey of great significance.

As the Party is leading the Chinese people to meet the goal of building China into a modern socialist country by the middle of the century, he said that drawing on the Party's historical experience will help boost the vitality of the whole Party and help all Party members to get united with strong political awareness in order to promote the development, prosperity and long-lasting peace and stability of the Party and the State.

Over the past century, Xi said that the CPC has been holding high the banner of great unity and solidarity, constantly consolidating and developing the broadest possible united front, and gradually established the principle of multiparty cooperation featuring "long-term coexistence and mutual oversight, treating each other with full sincerity and sharing weal or woe".

It has been working to develop socialist consultative democracy and the new type of political party system, leading and helping non-Communist parties and those without party affiliation to play a positive role in adhering to the political development path with Chinese characteristics and enabling them to develop and make continuous progress, he added.

Xi said history has proved that the non-Communist parties have gone through thick and thin with the nation and shared weal and woe with the CPC.

He expressed his hope that the non-CPC members understand the major achievements and historical experience of the Party's 100 years of endeavors, carry on the glorious tradition of close cooperation with the CPC, and keep consolidating the ideological and political foundations of multiparty cooperation.
