Insurance extends to HK, Macao people in Guangzhou
More than 15,000 people from Hong Kong and Macao who live in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, are benefiting from the Chinese mainland's old-age insurance system, according to local social security authorities.
As of the end of October, a total of 8,500 people and 8,542 people from the two special administrative regions have also become eligible for unemployment insurance and work-related injury insurance respectively in Guangzhou.
Sources with the Guangzhou social security fund management center said providing equal treatment for Hong Kong and Macao residents in the city would improve the local business environment.
Guangdong has launched online social security services that allow Hong Kong and Macao residents to address various needs, including making inquiries, printing and accepting plans.
Guangzhou has signed cooperation agreements with four Macao institutions to carry out cross-border acceptance of social security services and promote cross-border certification.
