Former provincial legislator prosecuted
Prosecutors have initiated legal proceedings against Zhang Xinqi, a former senior legislator of Shandong province who is suspected of taking bribes. The Nanjing City People's Procuratorate recently filed legal briefs with the Nanjing Intermediate People's Court, Jiangsu province, an official statement said on Monday. Previously, Zhang had served as mayor of Qingdao, mayor of Weifang and secretary of the Weifang city committee of the Communist Party of China. The procuratorate charged Zhang with taking advantage of his positions from 2001 to 2019 to benefit others and accepting bribes in return.
10-year-old boy's organs save 6 lives
The organs donated by a 10-year-old boy who died recently saved the lives of six other people, reported People's Daily. Lin Wenjun, from Nanping, Fujian province, was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a condition in which the body stops producing sufficient new blood cells, in September. On Oct 19, Lin suffered an intracranial hemorrhage and was declared brain-dead hours later. His parents decided to donate his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver. Lin's organs have saved the lives of a total of six people, according to officials at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, where he was treated.
