BEIJING
More efforts urged to raise legal awareness
A senior Communist Party of China official urged more efforts to promote legal awareness on Thursday to build a better environment in which the law is respected, observed, obeyed and applied. While highlighting the importance of studying Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stressed the need to implement the Thought while promoting legal awareness. Huang, who is also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, called for more effective legal education in the new era, adding that socialist culture on the rule of law should also be advanced.
China to issue digital driver's licenses
China is stepping up efforts to have digital driver's licenses issued throughout the country by the end of this year, the Ministry of Public Security said Wednesday. According to the ministry, digital driver's licenses are now issued in 138 cities in the country. More than 32 million drivers have applied for theirs. The licenses are issued via an official traffic management mobile app and have legal effectiveness equal to physical ones.

Ex-senior adviser sentenced over graft
Wang Yong, a former senior political adviser of Hainan province, was sentenced on Thursday to life imprisonment for taking bribes of about 90.5 million yuan ($14.1 million). Wang, former vice-chairman of the Hainan Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was also deprived of his political rights for life, and all of his personal property will be confiscated, said the Guilin Intermediate People's Court in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. Wang said he would not appeal. From 2000 to 2014, Wang took advantage of his positions while working in Hainan to help individuals and companies gain contracts, project approvals and career promotions.
