Five residents aged 100 and older in Xiangyang, Central China's Hubei province, joined a group tour to see changes of the city, as part of activities to celebrate the Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival, a day for the elderly that falls on Thursday this year.
The first place they visited was the new campus of the No 4 High School in Xiangyang on Saturday. "I have never attended school, and remained illiterate my whole life. Seeing such a big campus and good environment, I hope children can cherish the chance to study, " said Yang Yuhua, 103.
Passing the Dongjin Bridge, Yang Chuanding, 102, said the city has become "larger and prettier". "I cannot recognize many places now," Yang said.
