Holiday revenue jumps in Beijing
Beijing's major business sectors including department stores, supermarkets, shops, restaurants and online-retailers brought in revenues of 6.3 billion yuan ($970 million) during the seven-day National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, the city's commerce bureau said on Friday. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 7.6 percent.
The capital's 52 key business areas saw total visits of 33 million, up 3.6 percent over the same period last year.
To boost consumption, the municipal government sponsored events such as Beijing Consumption Season and supported consumption at night consumption, among other things.
The newly opened Universal Beijing Resort brought 15 percent growth in consumption by visitors from outside the city, the commerce bureau said, noting that daily visits to the park surpassed 25,000, with around half of those visitors coming from outside the city. That group brought more revenue to hotels and cultural and entertainment units.
