The test field -- started in 2013 under the call of Yuan -- is set to break through the yield of 1,000 kilograms per mu and provide a scientific research platform for the breeding and cultivation of super high-yield rice in China.

"As the only province without plains, 90 percent of Guizhou is covered with mountains and hills. The province's agricultural development is limited by natural conditions, so every breakthrough in rice yield is of great significance," said Luo Deqiang, deputy director of Rice Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
