Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore's ambassador to China, attended the 2021 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week and was impressed by Guizhou's achievements of lifting more than 9 million people out of poverty and relocating 2 million impoverished people.

The 2021 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week is currently ongoing in the city of Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province on Sept 23-29.

This is the first time that Lui has visited Guizhou. He noticed Guizhou's focus on the digital economy, e-commerce, and green finance rather than agriculture and handicrafts after visiting some big data projects and the Guizhou Big Data Exhibition Center in Guiyang and Guian.

He also visited the vocational skills training programs in Huishui county's Haohuahong town, saying that as technology advances rapidly, more and more people will require career planning and vocational education, bringing cooperation opportunities to Singapore and Guizhou.

Lui said that education investment is essential to realizing sustainable poverty alleviation, and that education is related to future generations and allows them to earn a better living by depending on their own skills.

According to Lui, Singapore has been China's largest foreign investment country for the past eight years and has invested $150 billion in total. In addition to trade and economy, Singapore and China also share similarities in culture, providing room for future cooperation.

Lui said he looks forward to Guizhou and Singapore cooperating in green economy, digital economy, and tourism. He expressed hope that Guizhou would invite Singapore's travel agencies to discover its natural beauty and seek cooperation opportunities after international travel restrictions end.
