Last rail shipment arrives for Indonesian high-speed line

The last batch of steel rails for the construction of Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway arrived at port in Indonesia on Tuesday, marking a milestone in the railway's the construction, project operator China State Railway Group said on Wednesday.

The cargo was transported to Fangchenggang Port in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region by rail and then loaded onto an Indonesia-bound vessel.

Once completed, the 142-kilometer line will be the first in Southeast Asia capable of handling trains traveling at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour. It will cut travel time between the national capital, Jakarta, and Bandung, capital of West Java province, from more than three hours to just 40 minutes.

Construction on the line began in 2018.
