Famous British sports car brand Lotus is to set up its global science and technology headquarters in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone – located in Wuhan city, in Central China's Hubei province – in the wake of a launch ceremony held on Aug 31, according to local media reports.

Lotus became the first super high-end sports car brand to locate its global technology headquarters in China.

The launch event also saw the establishment of Wuhan Lotus Technology Co in the WHDZ.

At the event, Wuhan Lotus Technology Co announced a new range of ultra-high-end pure electric smart products to be rolled out over the next five years and proposed the technical goal of "track-level intelligent driving", which will develop ultra-high-end pure electric smart cars for the global market.

The global sci-tech HQ, which will be located in WHDZ's Junshan New City, will be constructed in two phases and is expected to be ready in 2024.

The project will mainly involve construction of a Lotus global operation and management headquarters, responsible for supply chain management, global marketing and R&D design of Lotus intelligent pure electric models in China.

On completion, the facility is expected to boost innovative research and development in the fields of electric car batteries, motors, electronic control systems, intelligent driving and intelligent manufacturing.
