Hotel in Guangzhou focus of new infection
A coworker of an asymptomatic coronavirus carrier in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
The coworker, a 47-year-old woman, surnamed Tang, worked as a cleaner at the Tokai Hotel, a quarantine hotel in Guangzhou's Yuexiu district, the city's health commission said at a news conference on Monday.
Another woman, surnamed Xu, who also worked at the hotel, tested positive for the virus on Saturday and is believed to have been infected when collecting trash at the door of the hotel room of a person from overseas who tested positive on Saturday.
Tang tested negative on Saturday. As one who had close contact with Xu, the carrier was placed under medical observation. In a second test, she was found positive for the coronavirus, although she showed no symptoms. She was transferred to Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital for treatment.
Ninety-six people have been identified as close contacts of Tang. All tested negative and have been placed under medical observation.
In the latest mass testing in parts of Guangzhou's Yuexiu, Haizhu and Baiyun districts, 262,099 samples had been collected from Saturday until noon on Monday. Results available so far have all been negative.
