A team headed by Huang Yuzhi, vice-minister of Emergency Management, has rushed to Northwest China's Qinghai province to guide the ongoing effort to rescue 19 workers trapped in a coal mine flood, according to a media release from the ministry.
It said 21 workers were working underground when the accident happened. Rescuers have managed to lift two people out of the mine in Gangca county of the Haibei Tibetan autonomous prefecture. One of them, however, was dead and the other is injured.
Minister Huang Ming has demanded all-out efforts to rescue the trapped while arranging rescue work via livestream in Beijing. He also asked local authorities across the country to step up measures to enhance supervision to prevent major accidents.
