City officials in Zhengzhou, Henan province, clarified the facts on Friday related to a trending topic online about a nurse infected with coronavirus who attended a wedding ceremony with 800 guests.

There were actually half that many guests, and the wedding took place days ahead of the nurse's diagnosis with COVID-19, the city announced at a news conference.

An investigation found that the wedding ceremony involved 402 guests and 60 staff members at the hotel where it was held. The nurse, surnamed Liu, from the Sixth People's Hospital of Zhengzhou, attended on July 20 but was not confirmed with COVID-19 until July 31.

People who shared the same elevator and dining table with Liu, and those who sat at three neighboring tables, have all tested negative, Shi Dadong of the city's publicity department said at the news conference. The 60 staff members also tested negative.

Eight close contacts of the nurse during the five days ahead of her diagnosis, including six family members and 16 secondary close contacts, have all been quarantined. They have gone through several rounds of tests, and all the results have come back negative so far, Shi said.
