East China's Jiangsu province reported 45 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Monday, according to the Jiangsu Health Commission on Tuesday.

The provincial capital of Nanjing registered five locally transmitted cases and Yangzhou saw 40.

Since July 20, Nanjing has reported 220 locally transmitted cases. Six infected in Nanjing, who are still in serious condition, are receiving treatment in the hospital. Of the 94 cases reported in Yangzhou, two are in serious condition.

A total of 327 locally transmitted cases are being treated in the hospital in Jiangsu, the health commission said.

Yangzhou has offered rewards for information that leads to finding people who played mahjong days ago, with some confirmed patients in closed lounges, as many of the city's infected are senior mahjong enthusiasts.

Nanjing's Jiangning district, where most of the infected people were detected, has shut down the operations of subway line 1 and 3 in the district, the Nanjing Information Office said on its official WeChat account on Tuesday.

Part of subway line S8 has also been suspended to contain the virus, it said. Shopping malls and wholesale markets in Jiangning have also been shut down since Tuesday.
