East China's Jiangsu province reported 40 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the provincial health commission said on Monday morning.

Among the newly reported cases, Nanjing registered 11, Yangzhou 26 and Huai'an 3.

Nanjing, the provincial capital, has reported 215 locally transmitted confirmed cases, including seven in serious condition, since July 20.

Nanjing has launched a fourth round of nucleic acid testing since Monday morning at 58 communities and villages at nine of its 11 districts, all of which have reported confirmed patients.

Yangzhou has launched a second round of nucleic acid testing in its downtown areas since Sunday.

Nanjing police detained three people who helped many travelers leave Nanjing without a nucleic acid test result taken within 48 hours. The three drove the cars near the checkpoints, told passengers to walk remote roads, and picked them up when they entered the territories of other cities.

All the passengers have been traced and quarantined, according to police.

On Sunday, Jiangsu blocked 55 highway entrances and exits and have placed all transportation entering and leaving Nanjing, including buses, taxis and ride-hailing services, under strict control.
