What they say
Editor's note: The Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China invited four model workers who are also Party members to share their stories on promoting its good traditions.
I've served as a police officer for 36 years, during which time I've investigated over 400 major cases involving explosions and fires. To police like us working in forensic science, the crime scene is a battlefield. We can't show fear or cowardice when there is dense smoke or the possibility of explosions because we need to uncover the facts as quickly as possible. In the age of peace, the police make the most sacrifices and require the most dedication, but we're never afraid.

My father, one of the nation's first generation of bridge workers, had a great deal of influence on my own choice of job. At a very young age, I complained to him that he didn't spend enough time keeping me company but was instead devoted to bridge building. But I changed my view of his job when he brought my mother and I to the opening ceremony of the Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge on Jan 16, 1993. "My daughter, this is the bridge I've been working on," he said to me. I've since been very proud of my father and chose to become a bridge construction welder in 2001.

One part of my job is to visit companies to learn about their management of Party members, but we did face difficulties at the very beginning. Many companies didn't understand what I was doing and refused to tell us about their work organizing and managing Party members. But one day, a company director told me that he admired my perseverance. "If you get tired, you can come to my office, drink water or chat with me," he said, which touched me. I'm very pleased that my colleagues and I now receive more understanding and support from those running companies, and also from residents.

I think many people may know the words "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets". The phrase is associated with Yucun, our village. It was once heavily polluted by economic development focused on mining and cement plants. The situation changed when President Xi Jinping, who was then working as Party secretary of Zhejiang province, came for an inspection and used those words to propose a green development philosophy. We've kept the philosophy for more than 10 years and have developed an eco-friendly economy to make the village a beautiful, livable and affluent place.
