Sweltering heat doesn't stop tower crane operator from doing her job
Northeast China's Jilin province has been experiencing sweltering temperatures in recent days, but Zhao Lijuan is still sticking to her post 30 meters high in the sky.
The 31-year-old woman became a tower crane driver three years ago and has participated in the construction of over 20 buildings in Changchun, capital city of Jilin.
The tower crane, one of the most common pieces of lift equipment on the construction site, is used to transport steel, concrete and other raw materials.
The operation of a tower crane is complicated and dangerous, but for Zhao, it is easy to control.
"Keeping safe is the most important thing, not only for myself, but also for all my fellow workers," she said. "On summer days, I have to drink and eat less to reduce the frequency of going to the toilet. It really takes much time to climb the high tower."
"However, I feel quite proud that I can witness the great changes of the city," she said. "When I look down on the city from high above, my greatest wish is that everyone can have a safe and happy life."
