Typhoon In-Fa could hit coast at weekend

Coastal areas in East China should be on full alert for rainstorms and strong winds as Typhoon In-Fa may make landfall in the provinces of Zhejiang or Fujian on Saturday night or Sunday, the National Meteorological Center said. The cyclone is likely to land with the intensity of a typhoon or severe typhoon, the third- and second-strongest grades on a six-level scale. There is a possibility that it will go straight north along the coast without making landfall, but in any case heavy rain caused by the typhoon will hit Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces and Shanghai from Thursday to Monday, the center said. Zhejiang is expected to see the heaviest rain, with an estimated 500 millimeters due to fall between Saturday and Monday. The center added that Typhoon In-Fa is moving northwest at a speed of 5 to 10 kilometers per hour and will arrive in the East China Sea on Friday afternoon.
