Chinese-language TV drama series The Age of Awakening will begin airing in Hong Kong on Monday night.

The 43-episode, award-winning series shows how Chinese pioneering intellectuals and young people in the early 1900s strove to save the nation and the bumpy road they faced in the lead-up to the establishment of the Communist Party of China.

The TV series, a hit on the Chinese mainland, will be screened on i-Cable's entertainment channel at 8:30 pm on weekdays.

At the premiere of the series held in the city on Monday afternoon, Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said it's necessary to look back on the old and crucial days in China's history when the pioneers chose to put the nation's fate ahead of their own.

Leung said he also believes Hong Kong residents, especially young people, can relate themselves and have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the course of the nation's rejuvenation while watching the series.

Speaking at the same event, Tam Yiu-chung, a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said that the city should realize that the leadership of the CPC is indispensable to the "one country, two systems" principle and to the city's unique status and achievements.

Tam urged Hong Kong residents to shoulder their own responsibilities and jointly contribute to safeguarding national security, the nation's sovereignty and interests, and maintaining the city's stability and prosperity.
