A delegation of representatives from ethnic groups across the country held a symposium on Friday in Beijing to share their thoughts after participating in the celebration of the centenary of the Communist Party of China, as well as putting forward suggestions for future work.

Fifteen representatives from different ethnic groups made remarks at the symposium. They said they were excited after listening to the speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the celebration on Thursday. They also shared the drastic changes that have taken place in their hometowns and gave opinions on work related to ethnic affairs.

Chen Xiaojiang, director of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, stressed that members of the delegation should study and implement the spirit of Xi's remarks, unswervingly follow the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics and promote the cause of ethnic unity and progress.

He noted Xi's speech was important and reflected the truth of Marxism. Forging a sense of Chinese national community is a major priority for Xi, he added, saying all members of the delegation should shoulder their responsibility to promote the Party's ethnic policies, tell stories of ethnic unity and progress and take the lead in enhancing comprehensive exchanges, integration and harmony among people of all ethnic groups.

He also told representatives to be firm in safeguarding national unity. He said he hoped members of the delegation would strive to promote high-quality development, carry out cooperation with developed areas, improve people's livelihoods and make positive contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The delegation was organized by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and consisted of 516 representatives of different ethnic groups from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, the People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police Force. Many are national role models who have made contributions to national unity, poverty alleviation and the fight against COVID-19.
