As of Wednesday, COVID-19 patients in critical or heavily critical conditions in South China's Guangdong province have been all cleared, according to the Guangdong provincial health commission.

Guangdong, an economic powerhouse in South China, has reported a total of 12 patients in severely critical condition and seven more in critical condition, but no deaths have been logged since the province reported its first locally transmitted cases on May 21 in the new round of coronavirus outbreak.

Results of nucleic acid tests on key areas and key groups of residents in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan in the province have been all negative after city-wide tests in the three cities on June 22 to Tuesday.

Guangdong reported no new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the eighth consecutive day with zero reports since May 21, according to the local health commission.

Sources with the provincial health commission said the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in local communities has been successfully blocked, with people returning to their normal lives in key closed-off areas.

On Wednesday, passenger and traffic flows resumed in the Heyuan community in Guangzhou's Liwan district, which was hardest hit by the new round of coronavirus outbreak, according to the Guangzhou Health Commission.
